Who We Are
LGBTQI+ Associació Far is a Barcelona-based grassroots initiative focused on supporting primarily trans and queer people from the United States—who are seeking safety, stability, and a new beginning abroad.
Founded on lived experience, the organization provides hands-on, practical support for individuals navigating displacement, asylum processes, and international relocation. Our work centers on reducing barriers to entry by offering guidance in documentation preparation, connecting individuals with trusted organizations and resources, and helping them secure basic needs such as housing, food access, and healthcare.
In addition to direct support, we aim to build a cross-border network of community partners, volunteers, and advocates to create a sustainable pathway for LGBTQ+ individuals seeking refuge.
Our mission is rooted in urgency, compassion, and action: to help people not just survive relocation—but to rebuild their lives with autonomy, safety, and hope.
Core Values & Principles
Queers Helping Queers
We are built on mutual aid, not hierarchy. Our work is grounded in lived experience. We remove unnecessary tasks for resettlement that do not apply to your needs. We show up for one another with urgency, empathy, and accountability, recognizing that community is our strongest form of protection.
Safety with Dignity
Safety is not just survival—it is stability, autonomy, and respect.
We guide individuals toward environments where they can exist fully as themselves, without compromising identity, health, or humanity.
Can partners apply together?
Accessibility & Practical Support
Information saves lives—but only if people can access and understand it. We provide clear, actionable guidance on relocation, asylum, and daily survival, alongside digital literacy and language learning tools to empower long-term independence.
Preservation as Resistance
Queer history is constantly at risk of erasure. We refuse to let that happen.
We are committed to preserving queer literature, research, and multimedia—protecting our stories, knowledge, and existence for future generations.
Global Solidarity
This is not a local issue—it is a global movement.
We collaborate with LGBTQ+ organizations, advocates, and allies worldwide to expand resources, share knowledge, and strengthen pathways to safety across borders.
Sustainability & Responsibility
Our work must not come at the expense of the world we are building within.
We are committed to eco-conscious practices and long-term sustainability in how we operate, grow, and support our community.
Integrity & Confidentiality
Trust is everything.
We handle all personal information, stories, and documentation with the highest level of care, confidentiality, and respect. The safety of those we support always comes first.
Volunteer-Driven Commitment
This work is powered by people who choose to show up.
As a 100% volunteer-based organization, we value dedication, reliability, and shared responsibility. Every contribution matters, and every role carries impact.
Hope, Even When It Feels Far
“Far” means lighthouse—but also distance. We honor both.
We exist for the moments when safety feels unreachable, acting as a steady guide toward something better—even when the path is unclear.
